I’ve been overdoing it with the posts about exercise lately. I’m getting tired of talking about it, so I am going to branch out in some different directions in the coming days. However, today is a “check the box” kind of day, so all that branching out is going to have to wait for another day.
My Run This Morning
As is my Saturday morning habit, this morning I got up and went for a run.
I’ve pushed my body pretty hard this week, so the plan today was to trim the uptempo part of my run by a full mile compared to last week (3 uptempo miles rather than 4 uptempo miles). That left me with a 1-3-1 setup where the first mile would a warm up mile, I’d run 3 uptempo miles, and then cool down with a slow run back to the van.
In the end, I ended up running right at 10k (6.2 miles), with a 1-3-2.2 setup (1 slow, 3 uptempo, 2.2 slow). Here are my splits:
My first mile was right on track at 9:56. My second mile was slower than I meant for it to be at 9:04. I was shooting for 8:45. I picked up the pace in the second uptempo mile and clocked in a 8:12 for the third mile. My last uptempo mile came in at 8:24. That means that my pace across all three uptempo miles average 8:33, which I’m pretty happy with. I’d have preferred better consistency, but I’m happy with that average pace.
I then headed back to the van at about a 10 min per mile pace. However, as I approached the van I realized I was going to be just shy of running a full 10k distance. So rather than stop right when I hit the van I ran small laps in the parking lot to get the full 10k distance in.
Overall quite happy with the run today. My legs felt really heavy for the first 2 miles, but I think that’s to be expected considering that I picked up both cycling and swimming this week.
