Day 21: Evening Walks Are Better Shared

Every day after work I take the dogs for a short walk on our road. One round-trip up and down the road comes in just under a mile and takes about 15 minutes if you take it easy. It’s a great way to destress at the end of the work day.

Historically, I’ve taken these walks on my own–I just finish work, leash up the dogs, and go.

However, lately, I’ve started asking Meagan to walk with me. She’s been game every time and having her along for the walk makes them considerably more pleasant.

In addition to just being good company, she also takes one of the dogs, and it’s a lot more enjoyable to only have one dog to think about on the walk.

Today’s Workout

Today I completed day 4 of week 10 of the 1st Class program in Mark Lauren’s book, You Are Your Own Gym. Today’s workout consisted of a 4 core-focused exercises completed using a ladders-style workout.

  1. Bicycles
  2. Back extensions with hands folded under chin (elbows out)
  3. Hello Darlings (awkward name for an awkward exercise)
  4. Swimmers (another variation on the back extension)

Ladders are brutal. It’s 7 minutes of back-to-back sets where you increase the quantity as high as you can go then come back down, with minimal rest between sets. 28 minutes of exercise total, and when you’re done, if you’ve done them right, you’re done.
